Chris Martin BSc FCA, Director
“I help our clients build better businesses, more successful businesses and, above all, businesses that are fun to run. Over 20 years as a Chartered Accountant has taught me that different business owners have different definitions of success. It could be selling the business for a lot of money. It could be paying as little tax as is legally possible. It could be taking eight weeks’ holiday a year without the business imploding. It could be something as simple as getting home at 6.30 each night instead of 10.00. My job is to find out what clients want and to help them achieve it.
Outside work, I try to keep the ravages of age at bay by long-distance running. With varying degrees of success, it has to be said.”
Alain Dinsdale BSc FCA, Senior Client Manager
“Although being a Chartered Accountant means I’m good at numbers, it’s what those numbers are telling me that’s more interesting. Or more accurately, what they are telling me that I can usefully tell our clients. BeyondProfit has always been a very ‘hands-on’ practice; we get closely involved with our clients and their businesses and that is much more rewarding than simple number-crunching.
We have a very stable team here and I think that’s a reflection of both the culture of the practice and the fact we have such great clients. Managing an all-female team has its challenges, but I seem to do ok! Away from work, I play my many guitars and regularly go to surfing off the Cornish coast.”
Olga Andrievskaya, Client Manager
“What I like most about working at BeyondProfit is the friendly, relaxed atmosphere and the relationship we have with our clients. It feels like more of a partnership between us and them, rather than a simple customer/supplier relationship. I think that’s really important. This is definitely not a ‘traditional’ accountancy firm. We do all the things that accountants are supposed to do, like accounts and tax, but we try to have a laugh while we’re doing it. Work takes too much of our lives for it to be boring or a chore.
I come originally from Belarus, where l attended the Belarussian State Economic University in Minsk. I left to explore the West and settled in England some years ago. In my spare time, I enjoy cooking, singing, reading and camping with my three children.”
Stacey Danson-Osborne BA, Client Manager
“Like many of the team, I’ve been at BeyondProfit for a number of years, and I know that continuity of staff is important for many clients. One of the most frustrating issues clients have with accountancy firms is constant changes in people.
I enjoy working closely with clients and getting to know them and their businesses. It’s very satisfying to be able to help them with their problems. As accountants we sometimes forget that financial issues that may be simple and second nature to us can be a complete mystery to clients and it’s good when we’re able to put minds at rest with a jargon-free explanation.
Outside work, I’m a bit of a foodie and fine wine fan and I enjoy visiting decent restaurants with family and friends.”
Sharon Foster, Client Manager
“I spend most of my time carrying out bookkeeping and management accounts work for a small group of larger clients. We have a number of clients who are too large to have no weekly bookkeeping but too small to warrant a full-time employee to do it. I fill that gap. I spend a lot of time at clients’ premises and it’s interesting to see how different businesses work.
When I’m not working, I enjoy cooking and going out with friends.”
Leah Martin, Client Manager
“I run BeyondProfit’s payroll bureau, as well as doing bookkeeping and management accounts for a number of clients. Payroll is one of those areas like VAT that pretty much all businesses have to get involved in, but which is terrifying for the average client. I’m only too happy to be a help and support. Anything that gets clients doing the stuff they actually want to do and not the stuff they hate has to be a good thing.
I’m married to Chris and we have three children. Outside work, I love going to the theatre and socialising generally.”
